Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation is thought to be a solution to the looseness of the vagina. A lack of tightness in the vagina is something women often experience when they get older. Of course age is not the only factor that causes this; childbirth and obesity also reduce the tightness of the vagina. This leads to issues such as loss of sensation during sexual intercourse, and urinary incontinence.
There are two types of Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation – one is non-surgical and the other is surgical. The non-surgical alternative involves directing laser beams into the vaginal wall to encourage the production of collagen and tighten the skin.
This article will focus on Surgical Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation. At VIVO Clinic we believe it is essential that clients take their time to consider any treatment, but especially surgery. Surgical procedures come with a lot more risks that are not to be taken lightly. We have done some research for Surgical Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation, so you know what to expect!
This procedure tightens the vagina by using a laser to reconstruct and reshape the area. It is incredibly invasive and can include the tightening of the labia/opening of the vagina as well.
The majority of treatments result in tenderness and short-term pain. Other short-term side effects of Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation include redness, infection, bruising, bleeding and numbness, but these typically fade as the area heals.
These short-term effects can be as serious as long-term complications. It is unclear where the line is between a ‘normal’ side effect and a problem that can cause more harm to your body. For instance, bleeding is a sign of healing but also occurs when stitches have come out early. This lack of clarity implies how dangerous this procedure is because it is difficult to know if the area is healing or getting worse.
Long-term risks of the procedure include serious infection, premature death of tissues and pain during sexual intercourse. Furthermore, although the treatment aims to restore sensation during sex, it can lead to permanent loss of sensation in the vaginal area. This questions whether undergoing such an invasive procedure is worth it if there is a chance it will make your vaginal area worse.
The risks mentioned above are enough to show how dangerous Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation can be. However, an article published on 31st July 2018 highlights how the equipment for the procedure is often not certified for this use. The devices have not been properly tested for their effectiveness in vaginal surgery, yet are marketed as though they have been. As a result, the risks of the procedure increase. According to the article, patients experienced ‘vaginal burns, scarring, pain during sex, and recurring or chronic pain.’
All of this shows that Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation is an option that comes with a huge amount of risks, and a rather uncertain result. However, there are alternatives that you should consider.
As mentioned at the beginning of this article, there is a type of non-invasive Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation. However, the idea of lasers can sometimes be daunting.
That is why at VIVO Clinic we offer a safe and non-invasive Vaginal Tightening procedure that uses High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound to tighten the vaginal wall. Our unique FemiWand device emits ultrasound waves into different depths of the vaginal wall. This not only tightens the skin but the muscles underneath as well, producing longer lasting results.
With any treatment, we urge you to do your research and be comfortable with the procedure before going ahead. The vagina is a very sensitive area, so make sure you take care of it!
