HIFU Science

HIFU stands for High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound. In basic terms, this means that ultrasound is emitted in the form of minuscule beams. During the HIFU Facelift treatment, these beams penetrate the skin to target three different layers. The first of these is the epidermis, which is the skin that you see on the surface. This layer contains mostly dead cells and works to protect the face. The second layer is the dermis, which contains the majority of the nerves and blood vessels. This is the layer that gives you a sense of touch and makes you feel pain if you hurt yourself. Finally and most importantly, the third layer that HIFU technology can penetrate is the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) layer. HIFU is the only non-invasive technology that reaches this deep into the skin. The only other way of treating this layer is through invasive surgery.

These three layers are consequently targeted by firing ultrasound beams into the skin at depths of 1.5mm, 3.0mm, and 4.5mm, the latter penetrating the muscular layer. Depths of the ultrasound will vary depending on the areas of the face. This is because the skin is thinner and more sensitive around the mouth and above the eyes. Therefore, we use a much lower level of ultrasound.

Once the multiple ultrasound beams have penetrated the skin, they converge at focused points at whichever depth is appropriate. As a result of this, they create a tiny source of heat, which stimulates the collagen to grow and repair. Collagen is the agent that tightens the skin, making it look younger and healthier.

By targeting the epidermis and the dermis as well as the muscular layer, this produces an effective tightening and rejuvenation of the face. HIFU Science proves this treatment is a safe and non-invasive alternative to surgical procedures that yield similar, long-lasting results without any of the risks.
